Here are records of some of the children who took part in the 1962 Arts Festival from the Sioux Narrows Satellite News.

Little Miss Fadden was Chairman of the Cookie Guessing Contest. Hand crafted cookies were made by Mrs. Mary Rodegarde. 10 year old Bill Dwyer of New Orleans won the contest.

Miss Adele Dion and Linda Rodegarde conducted the poetry contest.

Gwenith Jones and little brother Evan from the USA entered paper mache sculptures of Robinson Crusoe and Alice with the White Rabbit.

Robert and Olie B. from the Sioux Narrows School won prizes for their art entries and Sherry Kerr won for her poetry.

Mr. "Bus" Sharp of New Orleans brought a 6 foot dugout canoe he made for his young son from a timber washed up on the shore of Sharp's Island. He also displayed wooden trains carved from birch logs and bowls from diamond willow.

During the 1940s to 60's, a vibrant artist community was emerging as cabins were built on the islands of Whitefish Bay. The residents would park at the landing of Woodlands Camps.

We would like to find more members of the Woodlands Artists Group that includes the following people:
Dr. John Perl, island painter, Chicago
Betty Reid, Return Point Road, pottery, Winnipeg
Dorothy P. Johnson, island pottery, Winnipeg

Here is a growing list of people at the 1962 Arts Festival:
Mrs. Reid, florals, Chicago
Sammy Lac Seul, painter
Henry Kabestra, painter
Mrs. E.J. Reynolds, artifacts
Margaret Gauthier, beadwork
Mr. Fadden, artifacts
Mrs. Kinsey O. English, millinery, Chicago
Mrs. Jean Englund, painter
Ruth Hoff, painter, Chicago
Mr. Ralph Lohr, President
Sylvia Glenn Honeywell, author, Illinois
Mrs Gene Dion, Chair of the Culinary Committe organized a Blueberry Pie Contest.
Mrs. D.K. Nelson, Chicago, and Mrs. Joe Bloomer, Indiana and Mrs. Gene Dion were the winners and the happy pie judges were Mr. Mathieu, Mr. Noman Bester, and Jim Johansen.

Welcome to our blog. We are searching for stories and information about past arts festivals, local artists and volunteers from the 1950's to 2020 in Sioux Narrows. This week I am going to mention two summer residents of interest from the 1960's.

1. Dr. John Perl from Whitefish Bay, painter, from Chicago

A Sioux Narrows Satellite News article from August 1962 of people who attended a picnic might trigger some connections. Thanks for reading! Stay home, stay safe.
